Majority Rules is a riveting, feature-length film about Alaska's adoption of Ranked Choice Voting!
This screening was a collaboration with Political Science Dept, the Munro Institute, FairVoteWA, the Office of Civic Engagement, FUSE WA, Washington Bus (a little bit), crosspollinated by Maya (in a non-campaign. non-partisan capacity).
From WWU Munro Institute's announcement:
WHAT IF CHANGING THE WAY WE VOTE COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING?
With America's democratic experiment mired in division and dysfunction, the state of Alaska votes to revolutionize their election system. The surprising results spark new alliances, a growing call for election reform, and fierce pushback from political parties. Could changing how Americans vote also change politics for the better?
Join the Munro Institute, WWU’s Political Science Association and FairVote Washington to view Majority Rules: the movie. After the film, Cathy Wineinger, Todd Donovan, and FairVote Executive Director Lisa Ayrault will answer audience questions. Refreshments will be provided.

What is the Whatcom County Charter? Learn about the once-in-a-decade review process. Nearly 50 candidates are running for the 15-member commission
~Cascadia Daily News, Sept. 10, 2024
🔥Tip: Most people are completely unaware that this will be on their ballot! 🗳️
We have so much educating to do in order to help folks understand how we elect this body of review commissioners, and what this one-year commission will do!
And, it's not just new voting residents who need a refresher! Nearly every long-time resident we've spoken with is pretty darn fuzzy on what this Review Commission is, how our charter review works, and all the details! It's been ten years since the last one, so that's not surprising!
Folks should note that there are 8 Charter Review candidates for District 2 and we will NOT have party affiliations next to our names on voters' ballots.
Maya would be delighted to come and give a presentation, swing by a house party, gallery opening, union meeting, concert, drag show or other community event to quickly give folks a rundown of what this commission is and does, answer questions, and collaborate!
